KHGDT is dedicated to preserving, advancing and sharing Classic American Modern Dance through narrated performances, classes and community outreach programs.
KHGDT concerts and lecture/ demonstrations capture the spirit and style of American Modern Dance visionaries such as Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Katherine Dunham, Jose Limon, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman and Martha Graham. The company honors these masters with programs that cultivate the audiences' understanding of Modern Dance's past, present and future.
The company is available for concerts, master classes and lecture/ demonstrations.

Artistic Director, Staff and Board
Kathy Harty Gray, Artistic Director, Founder and Choreographer of Kathy Harty Gray Dance Theatre, is a native New Yorker, a graduate of the Juilliard School, and holds a MEd from the University of Virginia. She was trained by some of the great teachers and choreographers of the 20th century including Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Charles Weidman, Anna Sokolow and Antony Tudor. She has performed at Lincoln Center, Festival of Two Worlds Spoleto, Italy, Wolf Trap Farm Park, the Kennedy Center and theaters and institutions worldwide. With over 30 years experience in teaching, choreographing and directing dance companies, she has accepted her calling to keep modern dance alive.
In 1978, she created the innovative “History of American Modern Dance” series - narrating concerts, which educate and entertain viewers about this unique American art form. She has choreographed for TV, trade shows, musicals and conventions. She has taught at many colleges, universities and studios and continues to teach master classes in traditional dance styles. In 1998 she was awarded the Jean C. Netherton Award of Excellence for outstanding service by Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria Campus where she has taught since 1994. KHGDT is currently in-residence at NVCC Alexandria.
