Philosophy:
Why Classic American Modern Dance?
KHGDT focuses on
how the visionaries
and pioneers of modern dance influenced American culture in the 20th century
and changed dance for all time. Using dances that show the classic styles
of these great dancers and choreographers and current works showing how these
styles of movement continue to effect dance performance in the 21st century,
KHGDT gives the viewer an understanding of dance history and American culture.
Performances are narrated to help the viewer know what to look for in the
dance, why the style is important and the dramatic impulses that formed the
piece.
Kathy
Harty Gray, Artistic Director is a Juilliard trained dancer, choreographer
and teacher whose studies with Martha Graham, Charles Weidman, Anthony Tudor
and Anna Sokolow helped determine her personal philosophy of Classic American
Modern Dance. Influenced by the places where she has traveled and the people
she has met, Kathy Gray's choreography shows the viewer the depth of feeling
and dramatic content that can be expressed through dance.
